TO FUND, RENOVATE AND MAINTAIN MEMORIALS TO FIRST RESPONDERS AND MILITARY IN YAVAPAI COUNTY, AZ

History

The Chino Valley Memorial Foundation (CVMF) was formed by Larry Holt, a retired police chief and resident of Chino Valley, Az.. Larry moved to Chino Valley in April of 2018 and soon after became aware that the town had erected a 9-11 Memorial statue on East Perkinsville Road. The statue had been neglected and the site was in need of maintenance. Larry approached the Town Council and was granted permission to renovate the Memorial.

In the fall of 2018 Larry recruited a group of volunteers from the community and work began with removing overgrown vegetation from the site. An architectural concept for the Memorial was donated by local architect Celia van der Molen and presented to Town Council. The Council approved several upgrades that were funded by donations and completed solely by community volunteers. The group raised funds through the Chino Valley Police Foundation during the first years. Upgrades included removing and replacing ground cover from the base of the statue, building a surrounding retaining wall, placing story boards with pathways, adding flag poles and benches around the statue and adding parking pads.

In the late summer of 2019 volunteers worked with town staff and annual commemoration ceremonies began on September 11, 2019. In August of 2021 many of the scheduled upgrades had been completed. On September 11, 2021 the Chino Valley 9-11 Memorial was re-dedicated by Town Mayor Jack Miller. The date coincided with the 20th commemoration of the attacks on our nation. The Foundation continues to work on upgrades and maintain the Memorial.
